Those lovely reds in the middle is what I was after and we had no yardage in the red. I thought it was perfect for the little quilt I've had in my head for a long time.
I pieced the letters VERY carefully improv style. There was no extra for mistakes.
I did pebble quilting around the letters, and straight lines for the rest.
The binding was made from a leftover red piece and the two other strips that had some red in them. I love the little birds on the edge.
Happy Valentines
Now I need to figure out what to do with the other 34 strips I have leftover : )

Carla, that's fantastic! Did you have a pattern, or is that your own creation? I, too, would buy a jelly roll just for my favorites! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo adorable Carla! Definitely worth the "sacrifice" of purchasing that jelly roll!
ReplyDeleteIt was worth it - it's lovely. Some things just have to be had!
ReplyDeleteWell, I can't honestly say I would've bought the roll...because I'm not really a jelly roll sorta girl...but I do love what you did with the quilt...and your quilting...I really need to learn to do more. =)
ReplyDeleteSweeeeet!
ReplyDeleteI am sure you will find something to do with the rest of the roll.
Oh this is darling!
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet-soft and simple. I like the texty background and pieced binding :)
ReplyDeletep.s. And yes, I'd buy a jelly roll for those 4 pieces! btw, I shared this on AQT's fb page.
ReplyDeleteI love striped bindings and I think the birds work great as well.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this Carla :) Of course I would buy the jelly roll for those 4 strips. The other strips are really pretty too, I am sure you will use them sometime. Love that binding too.
ReplyDeleteThat's so beautiful Carla! Sorry to say this but I think you're alone ... if you want only the reds I would be happy for the rest ...
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day! x Teje
Love that! I have bought a jelly roll for half the fabrics... I still have the other half in a bag!
ReplyDeleteLove that! I have bought a jelly roll for half the fabrics... I still have the other half in a bag!
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty. I love the Noteworthy and can easily see me buying a jelly roll for that purpose. I'd be glad to take care of the rest of the strips! I am sure you will put them to great use in another project.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect. Love it. I'd happily take the leftovers off your hands. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh how creative you are my friend! and I would buy it too, I can't tell you how many yards I have quietly aging in my closet!
ReplyDeletei love valentines day! this is so sweet my dear! i love the binding also!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely little quilt but I would look elsewhere if I wanted the fabric and they were only available in a jelly roll. I would probably want more than just those few strips, you see.
ReplyDeleteHi Carla, how cool that we made a similar Valentine quilt. :-) I think that "love" is in the air these days. The Love Notes fabric makes a fantastic background for the letters.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I once bought a fabric because I loved the selvage so much, so you are not alone. ;-)
They are perfect! What a lovely little wall-hanging! I must say though that there's just too much Scottish blood in me to buy the whole jelly roll, if I don't have SOME Idea what I'm going to do with the rest of it. But I'm sure you'll come up with something equally fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYep - would do that too ... if there was oneexceptional piece I would be tempted too. Your LOVE piece is worth it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little quilt! Where are you hanging it? I have a FQ of the red "cursive e's" and some of the little birds like your binding in red and aqua. The red is really a pretty color...dark pink?
ReplyDeleteYou are so not the only one! I love your LOVE mini!
ReplyDeleteOh Carla, I know just what you mean -- you made me laugh! This little mini is just the sweetest. I love it!
ReplyDeleteTOTALLY worth it!!! It's not as though you won't use those other strips, right? That little LOVE quilt is perfect and quilts are ART, which requires that we choose our fabrics carefully to accomplish our creative goals. Plus, you can never have too much fabric :*D
ReplyDeleteI think it is agreed that quilters don't make 'sensible' fabric purchases very often! But totally worth it if you can make a gorgeous quilt like this one!
ReplyDeleteCarla I LOVE your quilt x
ReplyDeleteVery cute Carla! Happy Valentine's!
ReplyDeleteI love your LOVE quilt - and yes, it sure was worth the rest of the jelly roll! So cute!
ReplyDeleteI "LOVE" it!
ReplyDeleteoh yes - to have a jelly roll of your most sought after color or pattern to use... and then the bonus of all the extra fabric?!! Count me in! I LOVE that jellyroll Carla. I just might have to get me one!

ReplyDeleteAhahahaha! Too funny. I don't buy a lot of jelly rolls but it's possible for me to grab one just for a few strips. I haven't as of yet…
ReplyDeleteThe Love quilt is gorgeous. How would it look in yellow? And blue? and whatever other colours are lurking in the leftovers…. :-)
This is lovely! Woohoo to v day!
ReplyDeleteThat is very very pretty! I might have done the same. And I'm sure you'll come up with a great project for those other strips:)
ReplyDeleteWow love that. I am sure you will figure out something for the rest of your strips;)
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are not alone...;-)
Carla, this is absolutely delightful. GREAT fabric choices and the birdies are my favourites. Thanks for linking up to Friday Felicities!
ReplyDeleteSo perfect! I have some Flirt strips that would work really well for this idea. I'll have to wrap my brain around it.
ReplyDeleteI am sure the rest of that Jelly Roll will not be lurking in your stash for too long Carla.
ReplyDeleteLove the birdie binding!
I think our husbands need to start a support group. . . ;)
ReplyDeletejust so lovely! and why not just buy the jelly roll for those prints! I am sure you will use the rest before you know it!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! Really love the fabrics and colours!
ReplyDeleteSimple and sweet. It looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThis is just so sweet. I totally get buying a whole jelly roll for strips. After all, I buy yardage simply for a good selvage!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!!
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the jelly roll will melt into the stash. This was totally worth the few strips that you used.
