LOVE LETTERS

Am I the only one who would buy a jellyroll for the 4 red strips in the middle? Somebody tell me I'm not alone. Somebody tell my husband-- I'm not alone!

Those lovely reds in the middle is what I was after and we had no yardage in the red. I thought it was perfect for the little quilt I've had in my head for a long time.

I pieced the letters VERY carefully improv style.  There was no extra for mistakes.

I did pebble quilting around the letters, and straight lines for the rest.

The binding was made from a leftover red piece and the two other strips that had some red in them. I love the little birds on the edge.

Happy Valentines

Now I need to figure out what to do with the other 34 strips I have leftover         : )

  1. Carla, that's fantastic! Did you have a pattern, or is that your own creation? I, too, would buy a jelly roll just for my favorites! :-)

  17. It's a lovely little quilt but I would look elsewhere if I wanted the fabric and they were only available in a jelly roll. I would probably want more than just those few strips, you see.

  18. Hi Carla, how cool that we made a similar Valentine quilt. :-) I think that "love" is in the air these days. The Love Notes fabric makes a fantastic background for the letters.
Oh, and I once bought a fabric because I loved the selvage so much, so you are not alone. ;-)

  19. They are perfect! What a lovely little wall-hanging! I must say though that there's just too much Scottish blood in me to buy the whole jelly roll, if I don't have SOME Idea what I'm going to do with the rest of it. But I'm sure you'll come up with something equally fantastic!

  20. Yep - would do that too ... if there was oneexceptional piece I would be tempted too. Your LOVE piece is worth it.

  21. What a cute little quilt! Where are you hanging it? I have a FQ of the red "cursive e's" and some of the little birds like your binding in red and aqua. The red is really a pretty color...dark pink?

  24. TOTALLY worth it!!! It's not as though you won't use those other strips, right? That little LOVE quilt is perfect and quilts are ART, which requires that we choose our fabrics carefully to accomplish our creative goals. Plus, you can never have too much fabric :*D

  25. I think it is agreed that quilters don't make 'sensible' fabric purchases very often! But totally worth it if you can make a gorgeous quilt like this one!

  30. Ahahahaha! Too funny. I don't buy a lot of jelly rolls but it's possible for me to grab one just for a few strips. I haven't as of yet…

The Love quilt is gorgeous. How would it look in yellow? And blue? and whatever other colours are lurking in the leftovers…. :-)

  41. This is just so sweet. I totally get buying a whole jelly roll for strips. After all, I buy yardage simply for a good selvage!

  42. The rest of the jelly roll will melt into the stash. This was totally worth the few strips that you used.
