In the last post I was trying to figure out how I could get some purple into the quilt. I'm using fabrics that match the bridesmaids dresses. I bought two pieces but then found this in my stash.

The wedding quilt was definitely more 'their' colours, but this one is all about the bride. It turned out so pretty!

My plan is to iron freezer paper onto the back of the quilt to stabilize it for signing. After the wedding, I will quilt it. I want to be able to replace a block incase that 'weird uncle' signs something he shouldn't : )
After trimming all those corners, I ended up with a big stack of triangles. These will be stitched up into a quilt for a baby that is sure to result from this happy union. The bride has said so on several occasions! It's only right that I'm ready........

I was a little concerned when I saw that the top is already together. Perhaps, I'm just suspicious that there's a "weird uncle" in every crowd. I'm glad you have a contingency plan. It looks fantastic, and the fabric totally goes with the bridesmaid colors. A baby quilt? Talk about preparedness.

ReplyDeleteGreat idea to quilt it after signings!!! I hadn't thought about that before. It turned out beautifully and I love the "purple".
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely! Sewing it together means that people can't ignore you when you tell them to write more than 1/2" from the edge! And being able to remove a block is also a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing this pretty top adorned with all the guests signatures and wishes! I wonder what that "Uncle" (or whoever?) will say? And a baby quilt from the leftover triangles seems a perfect way to use them!

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet quilt. I have also found it is nice to be able to rotate things if someone signs upside down. Using the scraps for a future baby quilt is a great idea.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I recently did a signature block (we had them sign the blocks before I sewed it up) and I had two where people were talking and misspelled their own name! So it's great that you have a back-up plan, I'd say. Love the idea for the use of the wee triangles--what a lovely idea!

ReplyDeleteOh my! You are brave to let people use permanent pens on a finished quilt top! I couldn't do it. As much as I hope you don't have to replace any blocks, I wouldn't put it past someone to....

What. Great idea! We had a blank canvas at our wedding, and now a very unique painting in our kitchen. Every time I look at it it reminds me of our wedding, so I am sure your quilt will too... Cannot believe you are already planning the baby's quilt, no pressure then!

ReplyDeleteIt's so fresh and lovely and you have a great plan for "just in case". Have you tested the pen people will be using? I had one that said permanent and even after it was heat set as per instructions it was half gone after the first wash. I love that you are already planning for the next generation :)
