JULY

I love summer.  As someone who is always cold, July is my favourite month of the year.  Number 1 it's hot, and number 2, well........it's hot!

I've taken the better part of July off of work to snuggle my new grandson when he arrives and do a bit of traveling.

This has given me a chance to do some catch up on my sewing.
I made a couple of pouches.

This 'bubbles' block for Rene in the Mid Century Modern group.  This was a lot of work, but I love it

these improv Log Cabin blocks for Emily who asked for grey/cream solids for the outer ring. These were so fun to just grab random scraps from my basket and sew without thinking

If you're familiar with the Row by Row shop hop, the license plates came for Katja's quilt shop and of course she had to have something to do with hexagons. After all, she wrote the book  : )
I want this on my car.......

This fall, we are going to be doing the Patchwork City Quilt as a block of the month so I have started the sample blocks

and lastly, the other day, two of my daughter in laws came over for a sew day. One of them made her first little quilt and the other covered a piece of foam for a cradle that has been around for 50+ years.
It's the cradle that I was in as a baby. We used this laminated cotton in an elephant print.

My job is to sew this stack of flannels into sheets to cover it and seeing as baby is due tomorrow, I best get on with that.

Have a lovely July.  I hope to have lots of finishes to show you when I get back from vacation !

  1. I too am not a fan of the cold weather. It would be much appreciated if you could send Old Man Sun down here when you're finished with him....'tis just a wee bet chilly at the moment. Ooooh I be you can't wait till your new little grandson arrives, so excited for you. Those pouches are gorgeous...fab fabrics; as are those blocks, especially Rene's. It looks as if it would have taken forever to piece. BUT....of course the piece de resistance is of course that hexie license plate...how cool is that. I'm with you, I really, really need one too. Enjoy that grandson of yours when the stork delivers him.

  3. Oh gosh.....I hear you. The most depressing day of the year for me is Summer Solstice because I know winter is coming.

Your sewing projects look great and I'm sure it helps pass the time until the new baby comes. It must be nice to have the girls come and sew with you.

  8. Oh my yes, I'm with you!!! I love the summer and just hope and pray I am never compelled to live in a cold climate - I would probably wither and die in a very short time :*)

What a blessing to have a new little one on the way!!! And so nice to be able to take time off to welcome it and allow it to become used to all the cuddling and snuggling and hugging that is going to be its lifelong gift from grandma :*)

  16. How wonderful to have family heirloom cradle. Very special. I'm making simple drawstring bags today for my daughter's jewelry busts. She needs something to protect them when the get packed for shows.

  18. Love how the log cabin blocks are coming together. I can see all the hard work you have put in, all that precise cutting and sewing. I loved the top bag too with all the detail. Can you remember what the name of the fabric was?

  21. I'm happy to be hot, too, as long as it doesn't get above 85 and will only last a month or two of that. Our summer hits 100s and extends from July into mid-October (don't you have snow by then?). I think I need to move north!

Your finishes are all lovely--and to think you'll have a new baby to cuddle with--what a wonderful treat! Love the license plate: perfect!

  23. It's always so interesting how different people react to weather. I would take a cold rainy day any time over hot and sunny days. I loved the years I lived in Seattle--the perfect climate for me. Everything you make is so special. Hope you have gotten in lots of cuddling time.
