1 PLUS 1...........

.....equals two scrappy quilts for two darling little girls !  I had these beauties over for dinner and was able to give them their new quilts.

For the most part, these quilts were made from scraps that were laying around the floor, sewing table, and wherever else I can stuff them.  It felt great to be using up and not buying.  The backings were yardage I had in my backing cupboard.  Linda did lovely free motion on one, while I did straight lines on the other. A FINISH OR TWO

On my last post I showed you a quilt top for my grand daughter.  It's now quilted with beautiful texture but I have yet to do the binding. I love doing binding so I should get around to it soon.

I'm enjoying puttering on the second one now

I finished the slouchy hat and my daughter agreed to model it for me : )

This girl.............love her

The texture shows so well with the reverse stocking stitch.  My daughter wants one now but in a turquoise yarn.  I have just the one!

These little socks are so fun to knit. The pattern is 'rose city rollers' and is free.  The yarn is by Smith and Ewe here in town in the 'liquorice candy' colour way.  I added in the orange

And lastly,  this little hoodie.  Oh my goodness I just love it ! The yarn is Merino and Alpaca. It will be so cozy, soft and warm for a baby

the bubble wrap is kind of creepy but it works : )

PROJECTS 1,2,3

Happy Monday Morning!  We've finally got us some summer here so I am loving it.
I finished the quilt top for my grand daughter and have blocks cut for the second one. She likes pink so I hope I chose enough for the quilt  : )

I started a slouchy hat for the shop.  This is from the Okanagan Knit Co. in Kelowna and is available on revelry.  She bought the yarn for her sample from my shop, so I thought I would make my sample out of the same Malabrigo yarn

This yarn is so beautiful to work with and shows the texture of the knitting really well.

And, because there is always left over yarn, I started a pair of baby socks

I'm just about at the point of a colour change in the yarn, so the next sock will be different.  Such saturated colours in this Zauberball yarn

Toasty toes for some little guy next winter : )

A GIRLIE QUILT

With the nice long hours of daylight now here, my evenings can involve some constructive play time : )   The other night, I did a fabric pull to see if I could get together enough 'girlie' fabrics to make a quilt for my oldest grand daughter.  Her first quilt is a bit tattered (which I'm happy about)

I started with these

I pulled a couple of fat quarters from a bundle I had never touched, but the rest came from my scraps

I cut the squares 3 1/2" and rectangles 9 1/2" x 3 1/2"

A couple of evenings playing around and this is what I have.  I tried to keep it quite girlie and found things that I know she likes

Horses, frogs, butterflies and pink!  While I was cutting, I made sure to cut extra blocks because I have a feeling her little sister is going to need one too  : )

It feels good to be playing around in my sewing room just for fun. Here's hoping I can stick with it and get it done this week -- the top anyway

BLOGGERS QUILT FESTIVAL SPRING 2015

Woot Woot! I got my Plus quilt finished.  Thanks to Debbie who told me the name is actually 'Inside Addition'.  I first saw one in progress over on Instagram by ' No Hats In The House ' and knew I needed to make myself one  : )

My son and I went downtown to take a few photos at an old school, but there was a bouncy castle on the lawn.  We decided across the street at this old church would work just as well so off we went. It just so happens that the Blogger's Quilt Festival hosted by Amy starts today, so I am linking up and entering this in the Modern Quilt category. Yay!

Modern Plus Quilt

A PLUS FINISH

Over a year ago, I was involved in an on-line swap of low volume charm squares. It was a lot of fun getting them in the mail. I used them to make a Plus quilt after seeing one of Rachel's on Flickr. I got a top done, but loved the look of it so much I knew that it needed to be just a bit bigger.  When I cut the packages of charms at work, I took one home and used them in the quilt almost immediately. They are so handy to just grab and sew---no measuring!

I used bright scraps for the pluses so they would pop.  I thought it would be interesting to see what a black and white shot looked like with such a mix of background fabrics. Kind of cool.

Linda quilted this one for me. I wanted texture and she wanted to try out this quilting design. We are both happy with the result  : )  The binding is a text print called Wordplay.

One last shot.  I've decided I will never be a photographer. I didn't notice all the tents in the background until I uploaded this picture onto the computer.  Duh !
