A GIRLIE QUILT

With the nice long hours of daylight now here, my evenings can involve some constructive play time : )   The other night, I did a fabric pull to see if I could get together enough 'girlie' fabrics to make a quilt for my oldest grand daughter.  Her first quilt is a bit tattered (which I'm happy about)

I started with these

I pulled a couple of fat quarters from a bundle I had never touched, but the rest came from my scraps

I cut the squares 3 1/2" and rectangles 9 1/2" x 3 1/2"

A couple of evenings playing around and this is what I have.  I tried to keep it quite girlie and found things that I know she likes

Horses, frogs, butterflies and pink!  While I was cutting, I made sure to cut extra blocks because I have a feeling her little sister is going to need one too  : )

It feels good to be playing around in my sewing room just for fun. Here's hoping I can stick with it and get it done this week -- the top anyway

Happy stitching!
Carla

  1. What a great fabric pull-- I am working with some princess fabric (not disney) and was lacking inspiration--thank you for sharing your project. I feel renewed desire to work with the fabrics I have pulled.

  8. Oh Carla, that's a girlie dandy for sure! I can imagine that any little one would love to snuggle under all of those magical fabrics. I may have to make something similar for my greatGodchild, Adeline. Another project .....

  11. You've chosen such lovely "girlie" fabrics!!! Love the pink one. And that Plus design is one of my favorites - easy to do, large pieces show off those lovely fabrics, and with such nice overall impact. She's going to love it!!! (Wise of you to be already planning the second one *wink*)

  12. Gorgeous fabrics. I love the pretty pink with the little girl in the tree; so fun. I envy your long daylight hours. It seems to be eternally dark way down here. =)

  13. How lovely that your granddaughter's first quilt has been so well used that it needs replacing. There is nothing worse than when they sit neglected in a cupboard.
I love all of these girly fabrics. Just my cup of tea.

  14. It looks great. Lucky you making a girly quilt. All I've been making is little boy quilts but just last week a friend said her daughter was having a girl. YAY. There's finally a girl quilt in my future.
    Your's is really cute.
