FRIDAY PHOTOS

This month I sort of did things backwards. Usually I get my bee blocks done early on, then it's play time!  This time however, I procrastinated until the end.  The blocks were easy so maybe that's why.

Nicke asked for these Greek Cross blocks for our do.good stitches group. They were fun to make so I made her an extra one. Besides, things look better in three's  : )

I mention this group quite a bit here on the blog. In case you are wondering what it's all about, this next picture sums it all up.  We make quilts for Hospice

used with permission

Look at that sweet sweet face. That's why I love doing it. This is the quilt that I put together.
Emily just finished this quilt that we all made blocks for too

Another group in the do.good stitches bee that I am part of is the Humility group. We make quilts for the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota

this month I made these two letters for the quilt Brittney is putting together

Now more than ever, I want to make a quilt with words.
Have a great week end.  Mine will be full of sewing  : )

I SPY -- A HEXIE QUILT FINISH

About four years ago, I saw a little eye spy quilt that I really liked.  It was made of little squares. Because I 'think' in hexagons, I have thought about it every so often and wondered what it would look like done up. Last week I found a little bag of hexies already basted while looking for something else, so I decided it was now or never   : )

It didn't take long to whipstitch them all together and then appliqué them down to a background. For the quilting I traced around some pot lids and decided to quilt in the areas where the circles overlap.

Some seriously cute prints here. That puppy in the teacup and the VW van?  Oh my goodness!

The backing is an Aneela Hoey print from my stash, and the striped bias binding finishes the rounded corners nicely.

I toyed with the idea of doing more quilting in the circles but I thought it might become more about the quilting than the hexies.
Anyway, it is what it is ...........and that is finished.

quilt stats :
29 x 42
1" hexagons
hand pieced / machine quilted by me

FRIDAY PHOTOS

This week I've worked on three different projects.  After all, I wouldn't want to be bored........

These little hexies got all stitched together and appliquéd down onto a background

The arrows are about half quilted

I am making flying geese blocks and adding them to the sides of these scrappy blocks that are being sent to me from the girls in the Heal group of do.good stitches

I'm still waiting on six blocks. I wonder what colours they will be.........
My current favourite is this one

It's been fun digging through my bins for just the right scrap  : )

Have a great week-end

ARCHERY

Last week I played around with more arrows.  I'm going to be teaching a class on them so I needed a smallish sample. This one is made using the new Cotton and Steel fabrics

Just up the road from me is Mandy and her big red barn. It was perfect for a backdrop.

Isn't this wagon great?

thanks Mandy for letting me come and photograph my quilt top

The quilting has begun, but it's taking a while

I'll post a picture when it's all finished   : )
As usual, thanks so much for stopping by

IN FOR A PENNY, IN FOR A POUND

My apologies to Kim in advance for this post.  Kim tends to get a little weak in the knees whenever I post about hexies           : )

I'm stitching away on my favourite pastime ........

.........but I've got a ways to go yet

Happy Friday

AUGUST BUSINESS

Wow. Half way through August already. I've been loving these long hot days and hope for more of the same in September  : )

This month Mary asked for these little blocks made from half square triangles. She loves gingham so I dumped out my scrap baskets and found a few bits. She asked for a light pink solid background and I found this Bella solid in "soft pink".

I have started adding to these blocks for the do.good stitches group.....

....the flying geese units complete them

and I am still sewing up some pretties with these Cotton and Steel fabrics

More on that in the next post.
I am off to work on this fine day  : )

FRIDAY PHOTOS

How is it that having done a bazillion hexagons over the last 13 years, I can't find my 1" paper pieces?  I can't believe it. I re-used the ones I just took out of these hexies, but that's all I could find.
Some of the prints in the new Cotton and Steel are just perfect for hexagons so I guess I will have to buy more papers

This week I made another pair of Quick Change trousers and another hat for a double baby shower. The little boy got the pants and hat

I gifted the quilt that I've had for (quite) a while to the baby girl and the new mamma loved it   : )

It's my turn again to receive blocks for the Heal group. These have arrived so far and I plan on adding to them with some flying geese units. I think this next quilt will be awesome!

Have yourself a lovely week end and thanks so much for all the nice comments on my last post.

AN ARROW FLIMSY

Finally, this top is done! Back in May it was my turn to receive blocks from the Mid Century Modern group I am in. I asked them for arrow blocks using my tutorial. If they wanted, they could send a feather block instead.  I arranged and re-arranged and fretted over the layout of this quilt. I asked certain family members their opinion so many times, that they started to hide when they heard me calling their names........

Anyway, this is the layout I decided on

I was a bit concerned while filling in the background with low volume fabrics that it might be too busy. I nearly scrapped the whole thing, but my daughter said "Mom just keep going!"

Now that it's together I'm quite pleased with it and really glad I did      : )

Some of the ladies sent me signature blocks and I found a way to include them

Carla sent me this little arrow and I just had to include it too

I did a google search of Navajo rugs and this pattern was in one so I made a block using half square triangles just to give it a little something extra

I haven't a clue how I am going to quilt this, but for now I'm going to work on something more mindless----like hexagons  : )
