DESIGN WALL WEDNESDAY

There's not much room left on my wall. I am nearly done piecing scrappy trip blocks. Just when I think that's it,  I do a couple more.

I've been playing around with the settings

Hmmmm .......decisions  decisions.

A NEW PROJECT

Noteworthy arrived and it is beautiful.  I picked up a jellyroll and started on a project that's been on the to do list for quite some time.

The background fabric is 'Love Notes' by Echo Park Paper Co. for Andover Fabrics.  It's perfect.

That's it. Just a little teaser.
Happy Sunday.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL QUILT SHOP

Aren't those of us who have a local Quilt Shop nearby fortunate? I consider myself doubly fortunate, because I work there. Yesterday was National 'support your local Quilt Shop' day so I made sure I did my part.

Katja's shoppe is plug full of inspiration. There is a great selection of fabrics, books, and notions. Customers usually find something that follows them home : )

Want a peek?

An old store cupboard holds piles of pre cuts

Bright funky fabrics have found their way into kits

An entire wall of beautiful flannels

Shelves and shelves of modern fabrics to go with all those pre cuts. It's a wonder I take home a pay check.

Back in 2008, the shoppe was featured in the Fall issue of Quilt Sampler magazine. If you have collected those, you could take another look.

That's it for today. I hope you enjoyed a little peek into our local shop, and come visit if you are ever in Kamloops!

HEXAGONS AND HOCKEY

Hockey is finally back on. I do some of my best sewing while yelling at the T.V  : )  Hockey games are usually when I work on my hexies and I have missed them.  I am nearly finished piecing the 52 blocks from Katja's hexathon last year.  I think I've decided on a layout for them .

I sewed 7 together to create one big hexagon. I do like the way they look on this navy background, but am not 100% sure.

They now measure about 15 1/2" across

I will have 52  3" hexagons. Divided by 7 means I get 7 blocks with a few left over. If I make a few more, I get 8 blocks. Not sure I can set 7 OR 8 blocks into a quilt top.
Back to the drawing board.

The letter E for my hexi-bet quilt.

There is a game tonight, so you know what I'll be doing.
Enjoy your week.

SHOW AND TELL

The first few lines of 'organic' quilting have been stitched onto my Chiclets quilt. It's going ok, but it's hard to stuff all that bulk into my machine. For those of you who asked, the grey I used is Modern Shadows by P & B textiles. Katja still has a couple of meters if you need some : )

On the weekend we had a  Moda and More club meeting. There was quite a bit of show and tell.
Enjoy.

LOVE the border on this.

some farmers wife blocks too

Thanks ladies : )

Happy quilting this week.

COMMA

Comma is finished, but small. With my fat eighth bundle, I was only able to make a few blocks before I ran out of the black. My boss Katja graciously let me have her fat quarters from her bundle and I was off and running again.  It was my "felicity" for the week.

This quilt definitely satisfies my love of  X blocks, as well as + blocks. The best of both worlds I'd say.

The fabrics are very masculine, but fun at the same time. The quilt measures 38 x 51 so I'm thinking that I will set it aside until the yardage comes in. Then the plan is to make more blocks until it's a good size lap or twin.  I'm hoping one of my boys might like it  : )

That's it for this week. Hope you get some sewing time this week end.

CHICLETS

Over the past few weeks, we've had snow snow and more snow. I have hunkered down in my sewing room and tried to ignore the weather. I got myself a new book-- Modern Quilts, and was delighted to discover I already follow most of the bloggers featured. I think I would make every quilt in here.

One has to start somewhere, so I picked "Everything's Coming Up Rainbows" designed by Krista Fleckenstein.  I gathered together a cheerful collection of fabrics and got to work.

I couldn't help but think how these squares remind me of the gum Chiclets.  So, that's what I named my version : )

I really love how the colours pop on the light grey background.

the sort of fractured construction of the blocks keeps it from getting boring while piecing.

I haven't any idea how I am going to quilt this myself. It measures nearly 60 x 84. I left off the final border because it's a nice twin size just the way it is.

That's one thing off my list for the first quarter of the Finish Along. It won't officially count unless it's quilted, but I'm happy still.

Have a great week.

X, PLUS, AND COMMA

This past week some new Moda fabric came into the shop. I had ordered a fat eighth bundle of Comma by Zen Chic. It is as gorgeous as I had hoped. So much possibility here.

After seeing so many inspiring quilts made from the x and + block, I knew that's what I wanted to do.
I've made them before, but smaller, or for a swap that I sent away. These will be aaaaall mine : )

So fast and easy to make. This would be a great guys quilt I think. If you have a moment, pop over to Linda's blog and take a look at what she did with her Comma bundle.

I am hoping to have a finished top to show you in a few days. Until then, happy stitching.

2013 FINISH-A-LONG

Accountability is good. Real good. I've decided to "finish along" with Leanne over at She Can Quilt. The idea is to list projects I hope to get done over the next few months and stick to it.

So here goes,

My pile of hexagons from last years Hex-a-thon. I want these sewn together.

My Farmers Wife quilt. I don't expect to finish this, but progress would be nice.

These blocks are nearly all framed, then I can cut them up and reassemble!

I've been playing with a few different layouts for the Scrappy Trip quilt.

That's probably enough to try and get done. We'll see how I do in the first quarter.

In my last post, I mentioned I had joined a couple of new on-line swaps. One of them is the Mid Century Modern bee. To kick things off, Carla asked for "juicy fruit" churn dash blocks. She wants red, orange, pink, and white-----together!  This is not a combination I've done before so when I mentioned to my hubby that I was struggling putting these together, his eyebrows nearly flew off his forehead as he pointed to my Scrappy Trip quilt.

Point taken.

Carla's block

I made another block for the Dancing Stars quilt. This one I will only work on when I am feeling especially patient........

and lastly, I sewed the block together for my Scrappy?Sew Bee It partner.

That's it for today. I am off to the post office to mail my blocks.
Happy Stitching.

ALL THE NEW STARTS

Rather than ease into the new year, I have jumped in with both feet. There is just so much inspiration out there, that it's hard to control one's self  : )

I am loving doing the Hex-a-bet of Alpha-gons designed by Katja. I will affectionately be referring to them as my "hexi-bets"

the letter C

and D

For those of you who have e-mailed me about the pattern : go to Katja's website, click on the Newsletter button (top of page)  and after the newsletter downloads, you can read about it in there, and yes, she will mail  : )

Six blocks done on my Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt.

With those leftover bits, I am sewing my January block for the Scrappy Sew bee it group. I NEVER would have tackled this block had my bee partner not asked for it. I'm kind of scared to sew it together......

December's blocks for Deborah. She wanted 36 patches done from 2 fabrics.

my December blocks for the Heal@do.good stitches group. Solid 'plus' blocks done tone-on-tone

.........and my first block for the Dancing Stars quilt along over at Amy's Creative Side.

I'm thinking I shouldn't be bored this year. Also, I joined two more on-line swaps but more on that in another post.

I am off to sew another block  : )
