GIVE AWAY IS NOW CLOSED **
What better way to start off a sleepy Monday than with a give-away? Last week I told you about some charm packs I made. I also made some packs that have Modern fabrics in them. I asked Katja if I could offer a couple of packs as a give-away and she readily agreed. Thanks Katja!
If you think you might have room for these in your stash just leave a (one) comment on this post.
Hubby and I are away for a couple of days so I will choose a winner when we get back
**I do reply to all comments so if you don't hear from me it's because I can't reach you. Make sure there is an e-mail attached to your comment
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Monday : )

LOW VOLUME -- AGAIN
I'm still crazy over quilts made using low volume prints in the background--or anywhere for that matter. Last week I got a hankering to make some charm packs of low volume prints because I thought they might be a good thing to have in the shop where I work. I chose 40 different bolts of fabric and Katja showed me how to use that cutter thingy she has. This is the result : )
I needed 11 more blocks to add to a quilt top I made a year ago. I will show you as soon as it's quilted. I love these!!!
I had my grand girlies for a few hours and Miss J wanted piggie tails like her big sister so........
.......there is nothing low volume about that hair!! Adorable
Not that I had an ulterior motive or anything, but I took a package home and made these blocks

A CHRISTMAS FINISH IN JUNE !
I'm sure I have worked on this quilt off and on for over a year but the top is finally finished. Yay!
The pattern is called Jovial, and the fabrics are Countdown to Christmas by Sweetwater for Moda.
When I made a lap size version of this quilt a few years back, it was about 60" x 60". This one finishes 75" x 84". It's big !
It looks a little odd laying on the green grass instead of snow, but if you close your eyes and imagine.....
Some of those little three dimensional pinwheels still need a shot of steam, but I'm happy with how this quilt turned out.
Now I will turn this over to Dawn and she'll get it quilted up so her and hubby can be snuggling under it by Christmas : )
Another one off the list and out the door!

'CHURNING' UP THE TRACKS
It always feels so good to finish up a quilt for a worthy cause. After getting the top together a while back, I knew I wanted to make it bigger but wasn't sure if I had the time. When two little blocks showed up in the mail after the fact, that was the push I needed. I made a few more blocks, and sewed them on. It so happens that this is finish #6 for this quarter. Original list is here
Diagonal quilting lines made for a quick finish. Then off for a fun photo shoot with my daughter : )
Someone told me it's actually illegal to be on the train tracks. I'm sure the police would understand once they realize I have a quilt blog and HAD to do this!
The back is my last big piece of Fandango and the binding is a plum dot called Sevenberry.
This will be boxed up today and sent off to Nicke who will deliver it to Hospice. I hope it brightens someone's day. Special thanks to my Bee mates from the Heal @do.good stitches group.

BEE BLOCKS FOR JUNE
It's always fun anticipating the block for each month that I will be asked for. This month's blocks were quick and easy.
For the Humility group of do.good stitches I made some raw edge circle blocks. Vickey will cut them in four, and mix them with the others. I'm still working from those green and turquoise scraps : )
Then for the Heal group of do.good stitches, Emily asked for a log cabin style block in red white and blues. I made a 22" block and cut it in four, then trimmed each quarter to 10 1/2" She will mix these with the others she gets too
These blocks are for the quilt I'm working on. I received the little 6" churn dash blocks after I had the top together so decided to make it a bit bigger. I made a tall skinny churn dash to make her blocks into a 12" block. It looks a bit odd, but once it's in the quilt I think it will work. I used my new stash builder fabrics to make the other one. Just two more...........
.........and look what landed at my house! Two more arrows. That little jigger measures 13". I think I'm just waiting on four more, then I can start putting my quilt together
and just in time, I got my block done for the Second Saturday Sampler. Good thing as the meeting is today : )
That's it for now. Have a great week end.

A LITTLE FINISH
That big pile of scraps has gone down a bit with the making of this little quilt.
Working from this basket of scraps, I cut squares 5" and paired them up in a light/dark or dark/medium combination. To make the half square triangles I used the diagonal line method.
I then trimmed to 4 1/2". Easy.
I arranged them on my design wall.......

.......and then re-arranged them. I liked the random layout better, although it's hard on the brain : )
For the quilting, I did wiggly lines diagonally just to emphasize the triangles.
I used the same piece of fabric for the back as the previous little quilt and the binding is wordplay.
This fabric has been used in countless projects and I'm nearly out
Another little quilt that will be off to Guatemala shortly : )
Oh! and this months Modern Stash Builder
These could have easily worked into this quilt, but I was trying to use scraps. Next time.

STRINGY SCRAPPY PINWHEELS
Now this is a blast from the past. I made this top a couple of years ago during my 'string' phase but never got it quilted. I believe my inspiration came from the Pleasant Home blog but I'm not sure.
There is a family from our church going to Guatemala at the end of the month, and I asked if she might have room for a few baby quilts that she could leave behind when she visits the Hospital there.
She happily agreed to make room.
I dug through my closet and pulled this one out and finished it.
For the quilting, I traced around my trusty frying pan lid and used a light grey Aurifil 50 wt. in colour 2600
It goes with everything and I love it.
I bound it in a cherry print by Mary Engelbreit to match the cute backing fabric- Cherry Christmas by Aneela Hoey. It seemed a perfect fit.
That's one quilt ready to travel, and I hope to have a few more before they leave : )

DESIGN WALL 'SELFIE'
After finishing a few quilts and getting them posted and delivered, I had room on my wall to play around with more blocks.
Arrows from the Mid Century Modern group are zinging their way to my house. So fun to see them all together
There are several projects going on here. Sometimes I just stand and stare.
The other day Vickey asked if anyone would mind making her broken herringbone blocks for this month as she was a little maxed out. I really enjoyed making mine, so I offered to do it. First this purple one...
... and then I did a red one. I pondered what colour to add as my accent and then I remembered the red and aqua combo. Yes please!
I want to keep this one!!
I can enjoy them for a couple more days, then they are in the mail.
Have a great week.
