FEBRUARY MAKES

Happy Wednesday!  Thanks so much for all the nice comments on my previous post.  There were a couple of questions I couldn't answer because the commenter was a 'no-reply' but I will address those at the end of this post.

This months bee blocks :

I made a cake for Carla

Stacey asked for a star block with low volume background

Jera asked us for string blocks using the foundation piecing method.  I sewed the strips onto 8" squares then sewed the squares together

My daughter in law came over and I was able to give her 4 baby hats to give out at the hospital.
I finished a couple more

Regarding the last post, the font I used for the 'brand' is called Carnivalee Freakshow and yes the quilt pattern is original so it's not available : )  The tutorial for the arrows can be found here

The wedding is coming up fast. We probably shouldn't,  but hubby and I have decided to take off for a few days.  See you when we get back  : )

THE WEDDING QUILT

Don't tell Becca, but the quilt is done! I'm very happy with how this turned out.  It's pretty exciting to have the vision of this quilt in my head become a reality.

Hubby and I went out for some pictures to a little western town that is about half an hour from home. Even though it was closed for the season, there was a truck there with music blaring.  No one seemed to be around, but I had the feeling we were being watched.  Hubby said  "seeing we are here, throw it on the wagon and get a couple shots."  I felt like such an 'outlaw'!

After a couple of pics, we took off and found another spot to stretch it out. This one really shows the colours well.

Becca and I designed this little 'brand' with their initials.   I. Love. It.

The all over hearts were the perfect texture for a wedding quilt and was done by the very talented Linda. Thank you so much Linda for making this quilt extra special

She roped him in, and we couldn't be happier  : )

LITTLE KNITS 3

Last week I was talking to one of my daughter in laws. She works in maternity at a small hospital that has about 300 deliveries a year.  For a few months she is doing a practicum in a much larger hospital where they deliver around 1300 babies a year.  I asked her if she would like some little hats to place on those wee heads she helps bring into this world.  She was quite happy about the idea and said they have no knitters for that hospital.  What ????

I cast on stitches that very night

and the next

and then again

I found myself home alone on Valentines day,  so I took myself out for a little shopping

When hubby got home from work, I showed him what he got me.........
He was quite impressed with himself  : )

The brown yarn is already in use for another hat.

I've been casting on 64 stitches on 4mm needles, doing a little seed stitch and then stocking stitch for about 4", then decreasing.  A little embellishing is always fun too.

With 1300 little heads to cover, I best get busy!

A FRIDAY FINISH

Last week when I showed you this, it was a top. With some simple quilting it's now a completed quilt!

I just followed the zig zags and echoed it in the open space

The backing is the cutest : )

The binding is a grey solid I had in my stash.  Done!  My daughter in law has a friend who is expecting so I think this may go to her in a few months.

ROSETTE'S ARE RED.........

Rosettes are blue..........well turquoise at least . After working on the first two rosettes of the New Hexagon Millefiore Quilt Along, I've decided that in order to keep my quilt somewhat 'controlled', I will add a bit of turquoise or aqua into each block. My first Rosette is turquoise and red

Rosette 2 started like this. Some aqua and plum

then a bit more

and still more

and a final round of aqua. Lots of stitching to do yet, but that's the easy part  : )

I like where I'm headed with this now.  Each block sounds more delicious than the last. Turquoise/aqua and orange, turquoise and text print, turquoise and lime green.

This second one doesn't go against the first one, so I think it will look ok in the quilt.  So looking forward to #3 !

LITTLEST

Every once in a while a fabric line comes along that I NEED.  When I first saw Littlest,  I knew some pieces would be coming home with me.

The border print was perfect for a version of a quilt I first saw here .  It's funny how things stay in our heads until the time we can make them

This little quilt top works up very fast. An afternoon would do it  : )  I think I will chop a couple of inches off the top so there isn't quite so much open space

The sweetest little border print

batting and backing have been chosen. Now to baste and get quilting !

Remember the jam I was going to make with my future daughter in law?  We made dozens of little jars of raspberry jam for wedding favours.

Cute stuff
