SHANTY TOWN

My 'Shanty Town' quilt  ( aka Hillside Houses ) is finished !  A while back I followed the quilt along over at Pretty Little Quilts, and made this fun quilt.  It worked up quite fast having such big pieces and turned out a good size.  Then it was out for a photo shoot

The addition of the purple was a conscious decision to 'woo' my daughter in law. It's going to be a house warming present when they move into their new house in September : )

I'm very pleased with this one. It's so cheery!

When I saw how Lorna had quilted hers, I knew that's what I wanted. It gives it such great texture. I have Linda to thank for that : )

The backing fabric is called Shanty Town and it's by Westminster Fibres.  This was a fabric that I had looked at several times, but never thought I would use until...............
It is perfect.

With one quilt finished, it's surely time to start another one, or two. I was very pleased to receive a copy of the new Quiltmania magazine  'Simply Moderne'.

It's plug full of quilty inspiration

like hexagons -- my favourite shape ever

It's available at our local Chapters book store or by subscription.

Have yourself a lovely week end.  I'm hoping to find time to sew  : )

I love your little neighborhood. Reminds me of some of the hillside neighborhoods in Oakland CA... very picturesque. And the back is perfect, as you know. The whole quilt is perfect for its use. Thanks for sharing the link. I've gotta look into this one.
Hugs

Such a beautiful finish! The addition of the purple looks fabulous. I think your daughter in law is going to be smitten! I love that backing and that you named the quilt after it. And I must say.... Those wavy lines look good on you! Can't wait to see what you make from your new book. The sneak peek is certainly interesting!

It turned out so great! That's the quilting I'm gonna do too. Simple and doable. :) Just have to remember to actually finish it.

I love how you finished this!! I still haven't figured that part out. (Of course, that hasn't stopped my oldest from claiming it as his, and requesting a second for the bunk beds that Santa is apparently bringing.) I also adore the purple! Those houses pop! :)

Such a pretty quilt! Like you, I love the bright colors. And it made into such a nice size quilt. Seeing yours is tempting me to make one. What a great exercise in working with solids. So nicely done, Carla. You can be proud of your handiwork.

I think your Shanty Town is one of my favorite quilts plus it's given new meaning to the Kaffe house fabric which is one of his I've never purchased.
