Hmmmmmm

This past week I have been trying to decide on a feature fabric for my hexagon quilt.  I am piecing my blocks from a line of fabric by Pat Bravo, plus some other bits. My colour way is mostly in the teal/blue/green tones.  The plan is to incorporate a few giant hexagons to showcase this awesome "wrenly" fabric I bought.  Then, this same fabric came in to Katja's, but in a different colour way. I can't decide which to use.

This piece has some orange and red in it. If I used it, I would have to add some oranges to my hexagon blocks, and I'm not sure if it would get too busy.

I do like the way this is looking, with the teals.

Is the orange too much?

Any suggestions?  Any at all?

Have an amazing week-end and thanks for your input  ; )

What a fabulous fabric! I think the orange takes away from all the other fabrics. Either way the bird looks like it will stand out nicely!

I think the orange is a nice pop of color, but Peg's right. It does draw your eye away from all that fabulous paper-piecing in the surrounding hexagons. You might be able to draw your eyes back to the borders with the right quilting, though.

It comes down to what you want to be the focus of the quilt. The small hexagons or the feature fabric. I do love the feature fabric.

Although I'd go with the same colorway, I'd be very tempted to get enough of the orange colorway to make something with. They are both so very pretty! Thanks for visiting my blog.

I am a girl who loves some orange but I think you need to stick with your original colourway. Great work as always Miss Carla!

I love the bird fabric. I have to say i like the bird with the orange. I think you would only have to put little bits of orange here and there. The quilt will be seen from a distance so i dont think the orange will be that drastic. Having said that, it is best to do what you like best. Sitting doing hexies today. Snowing and blowing here. Waiting to see what you decided. Did you get your parcel yet?

Beautiful work and beautiful fabric. I prefer the teal but that is because I am not an orange fan but it does add a little spark. I am sure it will be beautiful which ever you decide on.

I enjoy using bright colors in my quilts but I think I agree with many of the people who have commented. If you want a calmer quilt I would say no to the orange but if you want some blocks to pop then orange is the way to go. Hope that helps.

love the fabric - and i'm thinking leave it at the teal - the pieced hexagons showcase the beautiful bird without being obtrusive, but then the second look spotlights the beautifully wrought hexagons - the overall impression is one of calm - so, imo, the orange would be too much.

I like the all teal & blue print too. I do like the orange, but keeping it all blue & teal gives it a much more calm feeling.

Your hexagons are beautiful!

Let me start by saying that orange is my current favorite color. However, I really like the other one better. And this is just going to be gorgeous!!!
