FEATHERS FOR BABY -- A FINISH

You may remember a while back I posted some feather blocks.

This past week I figured out a way to get them together into a little quilt. I sewed them together like a braid, and used different size setting triangles to fill in the gaps.

I had no idea my fingers would look so creepy!  They look backwards or something.............

Anyway, for the quilting, I did straight lines following the angles of the seams. The quilting goes in four directions and I am very pleased with how it turned out. No puckers.  Loving my new Elna machine!

I added a few little scraps to the binding, just to give the edge a little something extra  : )

All the texture is brought to you by Aurifil thread in light grey. I played chicken with the bobbin a couple of times, but I won!  Got to love that about Aurifil. The bobbin lasts forever.  Even though it is heavily quilted, it maintains a soft drape. For the batting I used a piece of bamboo batting I had in my stash. It is lovely and soft.

The backing is from the same line as the feather fabrics. It's called Wanderer by April Rhodes for Art Gallery fabrics.

The quilt is for this little guy. Grandma's little precious

BABY BUCK

My son has nicknamed his new little son, Baby Buck.  I think he has big plans for a hunting partner when baby gets bigger.  I finished up the little quilt I started last week and it was a hit at the baby shower last night : )

bear, deer , and leaves....this line has it all.    Wavy line quilting made for a quick finish too. The binding is a black Moda solid.

The backing is another Art Gallery print that I had in my stash. The little foxes seemed a perfect choice.

and just because............ Baby Buck

W.I.P. WEDNESDAY

It's been quite a while since I linked up with a work in progress Wednesday post.  This week seemed like a good time because I started another baby quilt.

I've already made my new grandson 2 quilts, but when I came across this Art Gallery fabric bundle, I just had to buy it.  It's called 'hello bear' and I'm sure my son will love this one  : )

Simple equilateral triangles showcase the prints well

I also have a finish!  These little socks are done and I just love them

I took them out to the garden for a little photo shoot

It was early morning, so I don't think the neighbours saw me. I hope they didn't see me.......: )

A LAZY SUMMER......AND A FINISH

Well Helloooooooo : )  I trust your summer is going great so far.  Last month, hubby and I took a little trip to the East Kootenays back to where my father was born.  We stayed at a beautiful ski lodge for a reasonable price as it is off season. Each day, we came down off the mountain into the little town of Fernie, B.C.   I think I'd like to retire there. It's very quaint with lots of nice shops and good eats.

city hall

While there, I finished up a quilt for my grandson who wasn't born yet.  He is my father's name sake, so I thought it was kind of neat to be wandering around the town that his Great Grandpa toddled in : )

I pulled fabrics from my stash after seeing Ashley's quilt over at Film in the Fridge.  The fabrics were sitting out on the table and my daughter in law commented how much she loved that combination.
Well, you don't have to ask me twice! Sewing commenced right away and as luck would have it, I found this yarn that was a perfect match too.

It's just little, measuring 36" x 45" but is perfect for his cradle.

He did arrive, 2 weeks late, after I returned to work. That's ok though. I had the privilege of being there when he was born at home, so we had a little chat about keeping Gramms waiting : )

It's nice to be back in this space. Thanks for reading and enjoy your day

A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME

How many of us go running for our sewing room when life gets a little overwhelming?  The other day I needed a distraction so I made a little quilt for a grand baby that is coming soon.  Several years ago hubby and I went to Sisters Oregon, and visited the quilt shop there called The Stitching Post.  It was wonderful!  I picked up this directional print called Novella by Valori Wells.  At the time I didn't know what I was going to do with it, I just knew I liked it.

I went digging through my stash for a background and found the little music notes which I thought were a perfect fit for the little birdies in the print. Then I chose colours from the print to make the flying geese.  I resized a pattern called Big Goose Chase by Pieced Tree patterns

Before long, it was time to slice the fabric---always a little nerve wracking

For the quilting I did simple wavy lines following the lines in the trees

This was therapy at it's best

So looking forward to holding you in my arms little man   : )

NOW SHOWING

Every once in a while a fun little quilt comes along and I just have to stop, drop, and quilt!  This was one of those times.  The pattern is called Charm Box and is by the Fat Quarter Shop.  Just 2 charm packs and some background is all you need to whip up this quilt.  I used charm packs by Zen Chic for Moda called 'Reel Time'.

While I was piecing this, I was thinking about how I might quilt it and I thought of mimicking the circles on one of the prints. Then I remembered my daughter had this movie reel on the wall of her bedroom.  Bingo!

I traced around the circle with a frixion pen and got to work

How fun is that!  Super easy to quilt too using my walking foot

I  LOVE  it !

These fabrics are coming soon to Katja's Quilt Shoppe.  I think I may be making another one. What a perfect size quilt for a baby gift.

A FRIDAY FINISH

Last week when I showed you this, it was a top. With some simple quilting it's now a completed quilt!

I just followed the zig zags and echoed it in the open space

The backing is the cutest : )

The binding is a grey solid I had in my stash.  Done!  My daughter in law has a friend who is expecting so I think this may go to her in a few months.

LITTLEST

Every once in a while a fabric line comes along that I NEED.  When I first saw Littlest,  I knew some pieces would be coming home with me.

The border print was perfect for a version of a quilt I first saw here .  It's funny how things stay in our heads until the time we can make them

This little quilt top works up very fast. An afternoon would do it  : )  I think I will chop a couple of inches off the top so there isn't quite so much open space

The sweetest little border print

batting and backing have been chosen. Now to baste and get quilting !

Remember the jam I was going to make with my future daughter in law?  We made dozens of little jars of raspberry jam for wedding favours.

Cute stuff

A SCRAPPY BABY FINISH

A bit of time in my sewing room this week allowed me to get this little quilt finished up.  It started with a charm pack of low volume prints to which I added very small scraps.

The inspiration was from the book 'Imagine Quilts'. I just resized the block

For the quilting I did wavy lines in a light grey thread

The backing is a flannel I bought about 4 years ago. The colours were right for this  : )

It's not a big quilt at all, but I figure some baby will like it eventually

One more so you can see what I woke up to yesterday---10" of snow!!!

SCRAPS FOR BABY

Not sure if you remember these little blocks.

It started with a quilt I saw in this book 'Imagine Quilts'

I played around with the size of block so I could use a charm pack of low volume prints that I had.
Also, the smallest of scraps were put to use here

Now I need to decide on some sashing. Well would you look at that! There is a blazing oops in one of the rows. Good thing they aren't sewn together yet   : )

Have yourself a lovely week end
