LITTLE MAKES 2

Last week my daughter in law became an aunty. Her brother and his wife had their first child. Little Hudson Theo weighed in at 7 lb. 15 oz.

The quick change pants by Anna Maria Horner is my go to pattern when I want a quick gift

and the little Flour Sack hat is my favourite baby hat to knit

and the back of the pants

so stinkin' cute

The pants are fully reversible too

I hope to meet the little man very soon.
Enjoy your week-end

A HEXIE FINISH

These hexies were on my list for the third quarter of the finish along. After some thought I decided to turn them into an Open Wide zipper pouch after Linda assured me I could make one. I'm not a fan of sewing in zippers......

So, the hexies went from this

to this

After cutting the hexagon piece in half it was a little shy of the measurements given in the tutorial, but I forged ahead

Instead of the usual square sewn onto the end of the zipper, I used a left over hexie. I thought it was a nice touch   : )

This little pouch is perfect for my sock knitting.  I may even gift it right along with the socks !

This is my second finish for the third quarter.  A finish is a finish no matter how small.......

A FEW MORE MODERN BLOCKS

While shoveling out my sewing room, I found a couple of blocks for the 100 Modern blocks quilt I started way back when. It seemed like a good time to get re-acquainted with them so I made a few more

These are fun blocks to make so I don't know how I ever got sidetracked. Oh wait! Maybe it's all the new stuff??

How's your weather?  We had some rain. A lot in a very short time...........

Scary stuff!

If you haven't yet entered my give-away from the previous post, there's still a bit of time  : )
Hope you are staying dry

3 YEARS, 400 POSTS = A GIVE-AWAY

Give away is now closed

Three years ago, almost to the day, I started this blog.  It has been a lot of fun and I've enjoyed every bit of it.  This is my 400th post. I can hardly believe it!

Over the years a little fabric has been bought

and some quilts have been made.......

.........just to show a few

Anyhow,  somewhere along the way I acquired two "Juggling Summer" jellyrolls by Zen Chic for Moda. If you think you might fancy one of these, just leave a comment (one) on this post. I'll keep the give-away open for a few days and choose a winner later in the week.

Thanks so much to everyone who frequents this here blog, and for all your nice comments over the years  : )      I appreciate you !

*****if you comment from google+ I can't reply unless you leave an e-mail addy

THIS AND THAT THURSDAY

Bee blocks keep me busy at the beginning of every month. For July I had a nice variety to sew.

Sandra asked for these Trellis Crossroad blocks for the Humility group of do.good Stitches

Susan wanted any star block on a black background so I made her a 'twice upon a star' block

In June, Linda asked for string diamonds with a little orange in each one.   I mailed late but she does have them now : )

I got my hands on a few fat quarters of the new Cotton and Steel after a little road trip to Summerland  and Cherry Tree Quilts.  Hi Barb!  I pictured them made up into arrow blocks and I really like how they turned out

I used the selvedge for one of the arrows.  Love it.

One of my boys has been taking a lot of pictures lately and putting them on Instagram. I thought just for a change of pace I would post a few of my favourites here.  Canada is such a beautiful country.
This is basically our playground here in British Columbia   : )
Enjoy

A PLUS FINISH

Over a year ago, I was involved in an on-line swap of low volume charm squares. It was a lot of fun getting them in the mail. I used them to make a Plus quilt after seeing one of Rachel's on Flickr. I got a top done, but loved the look of it so much I knew that it needed to be just a bit bigger.  When I cut the packages of charms at work, I took one home and used them in the quilt almost immediately. They are so handy to just grab and sew---no measuring!

I used bright scraps for the pluses so they would pop.  I thought it would be interesting to see what a black and white shot looked like with such a mix of background fabrics. Kind of cool.

Linda quilted this one for me. I wanted texture and she wanted to try out this quilting design. We are both happy with the result  : )  The binding is a text print called Wordplay.

One last shot.  I've decided I will never be a photographer. I didn't notice all the tents in the background until I uploaded this picture onto the computer.  Duh !

THE THIRD QUARTER LIST

It seems we are over half way through this year already, looking towards the third quarter.  My list for this time will be smaller because there is still lots to do on each project. Trying to keep it do-able.

1.  Charm Pack Cherry Needs quilting. This is a carry over from the last list but I never touched it

2. My Arrows from the Mid Century Modern girls need to be made into a quilt...somehow

3. These blocks will be a quilt or at least a top ?  3 more blocks to make yet

4.  Socks. Plain and simple

5. These hexies have stared at me far too long. They want to be something--but what?

6.  The 'Plus' quilt just needs binding.  I will show that one soon  : )

If I finish what's on this list, I should have a jump start on Christmas gifts. Of course there is always the risk of getting sidetracked with new projects and new fabrics etc.  It can't be helped    : /

A SATISFYING SECOND QUARTER

Earlier in the year, I couldn't get my act together to even make a list for Quarter 1 of the 2014 Finish Along. THIS time however was different.  I compiled a list of 9 projects that I really wanted to get finished.  I'm happy to say that I completed 6 on my list : )  My original list is here

So here's the line-up of finishes in order

#1 socks

#2 economy block quilt

#3 Fly Away Home

#4 and #5 Beach House Quilts

#6 Churn Dash Quilt

Even though I had some finishes, I still have a pile of unfinished projects.  Funny how that works.
I am compiling my list for Quarter 3
Happy Monday  : )

A 'TENDER' FINISH

Stocking stuffer #2 is complete.  I grafted the second toe closed the other day on this pair of socks that I plan on putting in a stocking this Christmas  : )

I borrowed my daughter for the pictures because her legs have no freckles.......

the yarn is Kattikloo in Tender and is made here in B.C. on Salt Spring Island

It was lovely to work with

During this last little road trip I picked up another luscious ball of sock yarn.  This one is Madelinetosh and the colour is Dahlia.  I'm knitting this pair for a friend

Congratulations to Fran. She won the two charm packs from the previous post and has been notified by e-mail.
Thanks to everyone who entered.
