BLOGGERS QUILT FESTIVAL 2015

Fall is here, and along with that comes Quilt Market, and along with THAT comes the Bloggers Quilt Festival hosted by Amy Ellis of Amy's Creative Side.  This is a virtual Quilt show and always inspires me.

This time around I am entering the quilt I made for my son's wedding this past spring.

I loved making this quilt.  I had a Moda jellyroll of Persimmon and the blocks used every bit of the strip.  I saw the 'anvil' block on a Navajo blanket and made my own version for this quilt.  The arrows added to the western theme plus made a nice border to hang down the edge of the bed.

I personalized it with their initials.

The quilt was a hit and is being used now that the chilly weather is here.
I'm entering this in the Original Design category.

FINISHES

These socks have been on my needles since last winter.  I think I was procrasti-knitting  : )

Anyway............they are finally finished so I have one stocking stuffer at least

I entered a knitters fibre swap and got a package all the way from Japan!  I am really happy with the yarns I was sent. Lots of knitting in my future with these pretties

My little grandson arrived ahead of schedule by 2 weeks.  I met him just a few hours after he was born.  The next day before we went out for another visit, I knit up this super soft chunky blanket.
One can't arrive empty handed ya know

The yarn is Bernat Mega Bulky in the colour linen.  I cast on 30 stitches on 19mm needles and just did some simple stocking stitch with some garter stitch thrown in. I went through 2 balls in a couple of hours and was done!

The best finish of all is this:

Here is the little sweet pea.  He is THE cutest thing! My son and his wife are just in awe of him.
Now I really must get those feather blocks sewn so I can get his quilt finished !

If you need me, I'll be knitting some teeny tiny things : )

WIP Wednesday

The last of the Thanksgiving leftovers have been eaten and it's time to get back at the sewing.

These will be the last of my blocks for the Humility group of do.good stitches, because I'm letting go of a couple of groups to allow more time for other sewing commitments.

Simple friendship star blocks

this star block for Mary in the Mid Century Modern group was fun to do. Her quilt will be amazing
I included some of our Canadian chocolate : )

and because baby is due the end of the month, I thought I had better get busy making more feather blocks.  Now I have three.

My brain is trying to come up with some kind of a setting for these.  I am thinking five blocks kind of floating ? .........

3 LITTLE FINISHES

After 11 years of sewing on a little Kenmore with a 6" opening, I got a new machine.  I didn't want one that had a multitude of stitches that I will never use, but it HAD to have a large throat.  I decided on an Elna eXcellence 730.  Wow.  I'm still figuring things out, but I'm super happy with it so far.
The other day I decided to do some quilting with it, so I gathered three little quilt tops that needed finishing and got to work.

This first one is from Erin's book Sweet Tweets.  I used the squiggly stitch and my walking foot.  I specifically asked if the machine had this stitch and was told 'yes'.  Sold!
I really like the look of this quilting and it's fast : )

Next up is a foundation paper pieced quilt from back in the day.  This is a free pattern on Badskirt's blog. I just did a simple outline for this one, and now it's done and ready to be sent off to a swap partner

When I made these foundation paper pieced horseshoes, I had in mind to do pebble quilting in the background right from the start. I do like the way it turned out. Love love love the texture : )

So there you have it. Three finishes. Three mini quilts.  Three things off the sewing table.

Three new starts ?

BLOCKS BEHAVING BADLY ( AKA METRO AREA)

Here we are at month number 3 in the Patchwork City block of the month at Katja's Quilt Shoppe.

For whatever reason these few blocks caused me some trouble.

This one needed ALL the stitch rippers..........and chocolate  : )

the other two went together alright

Then there was this one.  I cut the large triangle the wrong size twice!  I blame the fact I was sewing in a dimly lit hotel room while my hubby recovered from eye surgery. After all that, the cat is upside down. I'm leaving it

By now, we are getting quite a nice pile of black and white scraps. This will allow for lots of choices if you want to change things up a bit

Here they are all together.  I am loving that plum colour.
Hopefully I can get the next month's together with no mistakes : )

Enjoy your week
