SUGAR POP FINISH

Is it Spring yet?  This quilt might be a bit too bright for the surroundings, but I had to get outside pics anyway. It's so fresh and fun!  This is a layercake quilt I did last year for the Moda club.  Very simple piecing and fusible flowers make it work up quick.

Once again, hubby was a good sport to hold it for me in the wind : )  I am happy with the quilting. I had asked Linda for all over loopy dragonflies, and the texture is wonderful. The binding is a lime green solid which I already had made about 6 months ago. Finally, I was able to put it to good use.

IDLE HANDS

Years ago, I knit.........a lot.  One day a friend came over for tea, and she saw that I had nothing in my hands. She said, "what, no knitting? Idle hands are the devils workshop".
I've been going like a mad woman ever since!  It seems I have to always be doing something. Hexagons take care of that need. I pieced a couple more for my quilt.

.....and I cast on for some socks.  My Mom-in-law has a birthday coming up. She likes hand knit socks.

I have a finish to show you as soon as the binding is done, so if you'll excuse me, my hands are itching to do that  : 0 )

THE START OF SOMETHIN' GOOD

I love a new start.  Choosing colours can be challenging for me, but eventually it all comes together. Yesterday I started pulling fabrics for April's Moda club meeting. The theme is scrappy, so this quilt will include it ALL.  Hopefully it will turn out : )

POINTLESS

Today I did #23 of the farmer's wife blocks.  This block wasn't difficult to do, but it turned out a bit too big.  I think I have figured out what I'm doing wrong. When I trace the template onto the fabric, the pencil line makes the shape just a bit bigger. Then when I cut it out, if I am outside the line, it makes it just a bit bigger again.

no DUH!  (as my daughter would so eloquently put it)

By the time you add up all those little bits, the block is too big and you can't just whack it off because all the points would be gone. Must be more careful from now on.

Frustrated but not beat, I went on the hunt for some star patterns I knew I had and made another block called the 'star of hope'. This was 6 1/2" square exactly.  I'm keeping this one instead.

Also on the to do list today were more granny square blocks. The plan for tomorrow is to start sewing them together. Yay!

A couple of days ago, I was notified by Deborah, that I had been nominated for the Liebster Blog award.

I wasn't sure what that meant, so I did a little digging. Liebster is a German word meaning dearest. Hmmm

It was nice of her to think of me and a few other bloggers.

Along with that comes a little business. I am to pass this little award on to 5 other bloggers that I admire, with less than 200 followers. I can think of several, but will keep it to the five.

1. Richard Quilts : Richard will no doubt end up in a magazine. He is new to quilting, but is cranking them out like crazy. He's going for 52 finishes this year!

2. Crooked Seams:  Megan is just plain cute.  She's doing a jellyroll quilt every month and I am trying to keep up : )

3. Happy Little Cottage: This blog just makes me happy.

4. Kiss Kiss Quilt: Nicke makes some beautiful things and has been an encouragement to me.  Stop in and say Hi.

5. Victory and Peace: Nicole is on top of all the latest fabrics and keeps busy with swaps and quilt alongs.

THIS,THAT,AND THE OTHER

I got the binding on my scrappy quilt. I had originally thought of a red polka dot, but then this orange jumped out at me. I like it.........a lot.

Because of the scrappy nature of this quilt, I opted to use bits and pieces for the back too. I had just enough of a few flannels to piece together a backing. This should keep a baby warm and cozy : )

I love this quilt not only for it's simplicity, but for it's economic qualities as well. What could be more simple than tiny bits sewn onto the corners of squares? I first saw this about a year ago on "Blue Elephant Stitches" and saved a picture of it. Jolene's blog has been such an inspiration to me, and sadly she is backing away from the blogging world. She is on to different things but you can still stop by her blog for about a month or so to have a look around. All the best in the future Jolene.

I want to make three hundred  several of these and send them to Guatemala next year.

 Hold me to it, okay?

This fabric came in today.  Salt Air by Cosmo Cricket for Moda. This may have to be my next project.

FUN IN THE SUN

Well, sort of. Just because it's cold outside, doesn't mean we can't take advantage of the sun. I have finished the solids and scraps quilt and I am quite happy with it. Easy and fast.  My daughter and I thought we would get a picture of it with the sun coming through.

Of course that wasn't without it's bloopers ; /         (look out dearie)

I plan on quilting this with straight lines---no surprise there. I have a red polka dot binding that will frame it nicely.

PARTY MINTS

Yesterday, while working on my "hello luscious" quilt, I kept wondering what these fabrics reminded me of.  Oh ya, those little party mints!  Fortunately I had a stash, and was able to satisfy my craving for chocolate as well as lovely fabrics.
Don't they look yummy together?

I figure if I reward myself with a chocolate for every block I sew, I could finish this, well, TODAY!

Also, my hexagon quilt is growing a bit every week. We are on week #9. Can't believe it's March 1st already.  Hopefully this means a bit warmer weather even though we are having flurries today.

Here's hoping for a productive March.
