SOME WEEK-END FARMING

I had a little time yesterday, so I worked on my farmer's wife quilt. This block took forever!  I used foundation paper piecing for this, and probably should have used the templates. Covering those angles is difficult sometimes. Not enough fabric was too often the case. It can be soooo frustrating.

# 25  Cups & Saucers

this one doesn't have quite as much contrast as the others, but i guess it's ok

***as a side note:  when it's time to remove the paper, spritz the paper, then give it a good shot of steam with the iron.  It will be butter in your hands : )

One more hexie.  My daughter coloured these for me to help keep me organized when sewing them back together. I still managed to get a piece in wrong, but it was an easy fix.

Scarlet is going to be a big sister soon. Baby is due this week. We are all excited!!!

Have a fabulous week.

MOROCCAN TILES

Does anyone else have trouble naming their quilts? I pondered this for quite some time, when I thought, maybe it doesn't have to have the word hexagon in it at all!  I thought it kind of resembled tile, so I googled "Images for Moroccan tiles" and a whole page of awesome inspiration popped up. I think my quilt kind of looks like some of what I saw, so Moroccan Tile it is : )

When I was taking these pictures, no one screeched to a halt and said "Hey! That reminds me of when I was in Morocco.........."

However, one lady did say, "Are you actually going to publish those pictures somewhere?"  Too funny.

The 'tiles' measure 17 3/4" across. The quilt measures 72 x 85.  Another scrap buster.

When I made Carli's quilt, about 9 years ago, I called it Tumbling Blocks. How boring is that?
This is one of the images from google.

Had I known about this site then, I would have called it "Steps to the Palace" or  "Palace Floor" or something much more creative I'm sure.

Anyway, this is as close as I will ever get to Morocco, so I am going to enjoy these while I can.

Have an amazing week-end.

STRINGS

Just before Easter, I taught a class based on the quilt in my header.  Each of the ladies had such different fabrics, which made for a great variety of blocks. Here's a little sampling:

It's been a month since I last posted a farmers wife block. Here is #24 (finally)

Not too bad considering how many pieces are in it.

*For whatever reason, my computer won't let me upload anymore photos. I will have to wait for hubby to get home from work I guess.

I hope to be back Friday with a picture of my finished hexagon quilt.......fingers crossed

A SUNDAY MORNING QUILT

I bought a book. A really FABULOUS book. It deals with the little bits we all have basketfuls of.  The name?  Sunday Morning Quilts.  It's by Amanda Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison. Cheryl is a fellow Canadian.  Maybe I'll run into her some time in a quilt shop.

It was hard to decide which one to make first, but I made my own version of " Up, Up, and Away."
In the book, Amanda used 2 1/2" squares and sewed a little scrap to one corner of each square.
I used 3" squares, and sewed scraps on the corners,  sort of in a hit and miss form. Also, I pieced an extra coloured square to each end of every row, to form a border.  I love it.

My quilt measures 57 x 61 and used a whole lot of scraps. I knew I saved those little connector corners for a reason : )

Happy Easter Sunday.

GOOD FRIDAY

Grace.  I love that word.  Perhaps that's why it's in my blog name.

This week-end will be spent reflecting on what was accomplished on the cross. The Grace that was extended to us.  Family will come and go, and we'll eat too much, but I will always be mindful of why we are celebrating this wonderful time called Easter. I read something the other day that I wanted to share:

My worst days are never so bad, that I am beyond the reach of God's grace.
My best days are never so good, that I am beyond the need of God's grace.

Happy Easter.

ONE LONELY HEXIE

My time isn't my own this week, so sewing has ground to a halt.  I did manage to piece this little hexie at work yesterday.  #15 in the hexathon.  It's only a bit different from last weeks.

Any progress is good though

Linking up with "freshly pieced" today for  work in progress Wednesday.

QUILTING 101

This past week I taught a beginner quilt class at the shoppe. It's always fun to watch the ladies go from looking "doubtful" to excited, when they see their quilts come together. I had six in the class, but two escaped before I could snap their picture.  We learn three different blocks. The rail fence, a four-patch with  an alternate block, and the Ohio star.  That way, they can go on to make another quilt using any one of those blocks. Here are four of the ladies with their finished (almost) quilts.

Way to go ladies!!

Also today, I am linking up with Lily's Quilts for fresh sewing day.
