SHABBY TREASURES

Do you ever stop at those little out of the way places?  This summer we went to Vancouver Island and stopped at Whippletree Junction. It's a collection of heritage buildings that make up a little shopping/coffee/bathroom stop right off the highway.  While there, I stumbled upon a little shop called Shabby Chic Treasures.  I found this little cradle, and after convincing hubby we had a bit of room in the back seat, brought it home.  This is what it started out as,

and this is what it looks like now.

Much better.

I know what you're thinking. It needs a quilt, right?
I gave you a peek at it already this week.

Well, I got it finished and I do LOVE it!  This little quilty was started eons ago, but sat forgotten until I saw this cradle.  Now I had a reason to finish it up.  It is appliqued down to a teal background in keeping with the nursery colour scheme.

While I was basting the fabrics over the paper, I made sure to leave lots of seam allowance so when it was quilted, it would puff up-----therefore upping the cuteness factor .

I wish you could feel it.

I hope my wee grand girls have many happy days playing with their dollies and this quilt.

quilt stats:

fabrics are 1930's by Mrs. March
582 hexagons
15 1/2" x 21 1/2"

Oh Carla! What can I say? This is just too adorable for words. I have my daughter's doll cradle that I've been thinking about redoing for our soon to arrive grand baby. This is so inspirational!

ADORABLE! Someday I hope to have a doll bed or 2 with doll quilts. I don't have kids or grands but my childhood doll Matilda and the cats would enjoy the setup :)

I have a doll cradle and a doll crib, both made by my grandfather. I never knew him and I can't bear the thought of repainting them. (the chips and scratches show how much they were loved by my mom and her sisters) Maybe they do need new quilts tho...

Your little quilt is positively adorable! The hexagons must be so tiny - 1" or so? I'm sure your grandgirls will thrill to play with the doll bed and quilt.

So special! I have a "vintage' crib I bought on line and love it, but don't love the color..so I might have to paint it! The doll cradle quilt is on my list..and a hexi is a perfect project!!!!!

Such a tiny cradle and doll quilt! I didn't realize how small they both were until you showed the photo of them in a full-size crib. I LOVE the hexagon quilt, of course!
